Box Office
We are looking for some more volunteers to come forward for training to operate the Box Office for the evening performances. We would like to train an additional 2 or 3 people so that the pool is big enough to ensure that no one needs to do the job for more than one evening in a week.
The training takes one evening with an audience then 2 or 3 evenings under supervision, so that you can be confident of doing the job before you are asked to do it on your own.
If you would like to be trained please contact either Thelma the office or the Chairman.
Web site
I have been maintaining the web site almost from the start, and I think that it is time for another person to take over. At the moment the site is very simple in design, and needs some work to give it a more modern look and feel.
I would like to be able to finish at the beginning of September 2010, so I will be able to help with the loading of the new season.
If you would like to have a go at helping maintain the Rose web site please let me know (0797 004 8159 or chairman@rosetheatre.co.uk)
New Lighting Board
Plans are being formed to replace the lighting board. The committee has requested that a team of members lead by Derek Taylor investigate all of the options with an objective to have the new system installed and persons trained in its use by the beginning of our next season.
If there are any members that are interested in training to use the new lighting board or would like to train in producing sound for our plays please contact Derek at stagedirector@rosetheatre.co.uk.
Entrance Vestibule
Following the water leak during the winter we are seeking to repair and update the entrance vestibule. Our current plans are to remove the existing dropped ceiling, then add some insulation and plasterboard the ceiling and the walls. The new floor covering was also damaged by the water and will be replaced.
New lighting fittings will be installed, with a new welcoming decoration and new notice boards.
The plastering will be done by an external contractor, but we plan to use members to do the decoration. If you would like to help please let Keith Higgins or the office know.
Access to the Theatre
Concern has been expressed for some time that the access ramp to the theatre is too steep and not as safe as it could be. Quotations are being sought to build a new ramp with a more gentle gradient and a turn as it joins the pavement.
As part of this redevelopment we hope to be able to increase the number of parking bays on the site by removing the existing steps, and putting a hard stand in front of the three in the assembly area.
Youth theatre
The Nonentities Youth Theatre restarted on the 1st May. We would like to welcome Rachel Nielson and Robyn Andrews as the new teachers.
The link between the NYT and the committee is through the Artistic Director. Do and Rachel will be working together to plan an interesting programme of training for the NYT members. Also the older ex-NYT members (who are now part of the main company) will be given training in the use of theatre equipment such as lighting and sound and will be taught about stage management, this will enable to the older ones to assist with the Youth Theatre while still learning and to gain more experience.
We have told Rachel that she can call upon members of the main company to assist with the training and give a greater spread of knowledge and experience.
There are vacancies for new members of the Nonentities Youth Theatre. The age range is from 12 to 16 (end of compulsory schooling). Also there will be a significant number leaving at the end of this school year.
If you know of any young persons who would like to get a sound training in the theatre and in drama please ask them to contact the office who will arrange for them to join.
Next Season
We are getting close to the finalisation of the new season. At the committee meeting on the 18th May we plan to complete the decisions. We will then issue a newsletter giving the plays, their dates and a brief synopsis.
Play Readings
We realise that many of you will not be familiar with all of the plays that are in the new season so we are planning a number of play readings. These will give you an opportunity to join your fellow members and to get to know the play and be better informed when you declare your availability.
The play readings will be on:
27th May - 7:30pm
1st June - 7:30pm
Both of the first two plays will be read on both of these nights. You can attend either or both.
There will be more play readings later for the other plays in the season.
If you are unable to attend either of these two dates you will be able to indicate your availability on the next newsletter and seek an audtion.
Casting
By tradition the Nonentities has cast its plays by members making their availability known and then the Artistic Director and a small committee placing the available members in the most appropriate parts. This system has been breaking down over recent years as fewer and fewer members returned their availability forms.
This year we plan to offer parts to those (current or prospective) members who attend the play readings and make themselves available at those readings. Only after the attendees have been cast will consideration be given to other members.
Auditions
There have been proposals for casting to be done by audition. At this time it has been decided to use the play readings as a more informal and congenial form of audition. However we recognise that there are some of you who may wish to demonstrate your abilities or offer a different character in the form of an audition.
If you would like to audition we will give more details in the next newsletter.
Subscriptions
Some of you will find a reminder enclosed with this newsletter. If we do not receive your subscription for the current year by the end of May 2010 you will be removed from the members database.
The new subs will be due on 1st July. If you would like to pay by Standing Order please contact the office and they will give the details.

Let's Decorate
After the major success of the rebuild of the foyer during last summer we are now planning to do some repairs and to redecorate the main auditorium.
The repairs are to parts of the floor on Stage right near the entrance, and on some of the steps. The work will include removing the carpet, replacing the boards and then replacing the carpet.
We also plan to change the colour of the walls of the auditorium. If you have visited theatres that have been redecorated in recent years you will have seen that most now use different colours and sometimes include decoration.
If you are available to help with either of these two projects please contact Keith Higgins or just let the office know and they will pass your details to Keith.
Your Committee
At the next meeting your committee will decide the date of the AGM. There will be a number of vacancies including officers and managers. More details of this will be given later, but if you would like to offer your services to the society as an elected member of the committee or as a manager please let us know so that we can explain to you what is involved.
