Information for Members
Newsletter November 09

Last Update  12-May-2010

With this newsletter we have sent some newly formatted items that will be explained in more detail below. The reason for the change is to regularise some of the office procedures, and to make the office administration easier. While changing the formats and procedures we have not changed any of the costs or benefits that are part of being any active member of the society.

Membership Card

If the office records show that you have paid your subscription for the 2009-10 year you will find that we have enclosed a newly formatted membership card. The card is in two main parts, one is kept in the office as a record that your card has been issued, the other is your record of having paid you subscription and of being a member.

If no membership card is enclosed, then our records do not show you as having paid for this year. If you have paid please contact the office so that they can work with you to trace the payment.

Your membership is paid to: (<Membership_Paid>)
(NOTE if you are a life member there will be no date shown)

Please note that your subscription for next year is due on 1st July 2010.

Members Points

We are sorry that no free tickets have been issued under the the members points system for a long time. We have brought the information up to date and have enclosed the tickets that you are owed.

If no tickets are enclosed then the balance of points that yo have earned is less than the 6. One point is earned for each night on which you support the Society by front of house, bar or backstage.

In future the office will try to update the system shortly after each Nonentities play, and will issue all tickets as soon as they become due.

Set Building

The set for the next play "Dead Guilty" will be started on Sunday March 28th at 10:00. If yo are handy at DIY and would like to help please come along and join the happy crew.

Other dates for your diary are:
Sunday 25th April
Sunday 23rd May

"Dead Guilty"

Is in rehearsal, and as you can see from the item above will be moving onto the main stage very soon. If you have not arranged your ticket please do so swiftly to avoid disappointment

Next Season

(Nonentities)

If you have any ideas for plays that you would like to perform or that you think that would suit our audience then please contact Do Evans very quickly.

We will need to continue to satisfy our core audience so must put on plays that they want to come to see. As we have no subsidies we will continue to consider plays that will bring in an audience. The studio will continue to be the venue for the less commercial shows, the main house must deliver a good profit on every play for us to survive.

We will publish the dates for next season after they have been ratified at the next committee meeting

Next Season

(Visitors)

Once the season of Nonentities plays have been set into the diary we discuss with our regular amateur visitors (KODS and TOR) which dates they would like. Time and rehearsal space is then allocated for the Nonentities plays. It is only then that we are able to look at the requests that we have had from other amateur societies and professional companies.

The number of nights that are available left for hire are very limited. We then have to consider which shows will deliver an appropriate return. Sometimes we take a risk, as we did with Julie Felix, and sometimes they pay off.

If there are any professional (or short run amateur) shows that you think will be liked by our audience and that can be brought to our theatre at a reasonable profit please email to me at chairman@rosetheatre.co.uk

Best Wishes for a Speedy Recovery

We were saddened to hear of the medical problems that two of our esteemed members have suffered. We wish John Gaston and Murray Bridges a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing then in the theatre again.

KODS

We have had a very nice email from KODS thanking us for all of the work and help in supporting them. They had an excellent week with very few seats unsold. Needless to say the bar did very well and I would like to thank all members who helped.

New Shows

We have added a couple of shows to our programme this year, to fill part of a spare week.

Talbot House

20th May 2010

Aimed at a family audience, this feelgood and moving play gives a brief taste of the history of the house and with the aid of poetry and music from the Great War, the atmosphere that was felt by the troops that visited it.

Then Paolo Allen returns with a new show called:

That's Entertainment

21st May 2010

A brand new double-bill featuring two new comedies of back-stage life by Lichfield writer Phil Preece, author of cult 'House of Pain'.

Society Rules

Discussion at a recent committee meeting highlighted that a lot of members do not have a copy of the latest rules. We have enclosed a copy of the latest set of rules as revised in 2007.

We are in the process of brining the other documentation concerning the trust up to date with the relevant authorities. This will not change the wording of the existing trust documentation nor will it affect the rules.

Volunteers Please

We are looking for members to volunteer to take posters to suitable shops, cafés and other places where the public will see them. If you have a few minutes to spare a cojuple of times a year please contact our Publicity Manager Kerena Taylor and let her have your name. She can be contacted by email publicity@rosetheatre.co.uk or 07968 102446

Youth Theatre Leader

We were very sorry when Emma Lashford gave in her resignation at the end of last year. We are now looking for a new lead teacher.

A full Job Description will be available from the office by Wednesday 24th March. The primary requirements are:

  1. Experience as a drama teacher and

  2. either an appropriate theatre or drama qualification, or a teaching qualification, preferably both.

The payment of £25 per hour is based on the number of teaching hours and does not include preparation or administration time.

Other Matters

Air conditioning

We will be visiting the Number 8 at Pershore to see the system that is installed there. By reputation it is very effective and also it is silent in operation. We will be getting some professional advise from one of the members of Swan Playwrights.

VAT Refund

After many years we have at last received the refund due to us for over payment of VAT. The sum that we have received is considerable and your committee will be considering how best to use this windfall.

Hanging Baskets

One of our ex-members is offering a 20% discount on hanging baskets, if interested please contact Tanya Kirk on
