Club Night!
A few dedicated members are trying to revive the idea of a club night at the theatre. The intention is that it is a relaxed social night where everyone can come along and meet the other members of the society, get to know each other a bit better and generally chat about all things theatre-ish or otherwise.
While keeping things informal, the evenings could also be a chance to get to speak to the various people in charge of 'staffing', to register your interest and get insights and ideas of what it is like from members who already do the jobs.
As stage director, if you have an interest in working backstage or technical, I would certainly like to meet any members who I haven't worked with so far, in order that I can place you in appropriate roles which will interest you, and make sure you have adequate support in learning on the job.
If you do not have any plans for a Thursday evening then please come along and say hello to your fellow nonies. If there is a show on, then 9pm will usually miss the interval and the rush of public. Cast who are rehearsing on a Thursday for upcoming plays are usually ready for a drink by 10pm. If you ask me nicely, I might even bring along my giant Jenga set for a bit of fun! Derek.
Broadwaters Fair
This year we have decided to give something back to the community, and so we will be having a stall at the 'Broadwaters Christmas Market.' Details of our stall are still to be finalised, but we are looking for a couple of willing helpers to stand on the stall with us on Saturday 12th December between 5pm and 8pm. Christmas Entertainment is on at the same time, so we know the number of people will be limited, but all help will be greatly received! Please let Kerena Taylor know if you are able to help by leaving a message with the office, or by email publicity@rosetheatre.co.uk
Maskerade Fundraising
During the week of Maskerade we will be fundraising for a charity called 'for dementia' that Bob Graham works for. We hope to raise awareness of dementia, as well as raising money, during the week. We intend to turn the studio into an area to inform our patrons ofthe chairty, and we would like a volunteer please to help out in the studio at the start and end of every performance. If you are able to do this please let Kerena Taylor know ASAP, either by leaving a message with the office, or by email publicity@rosetheatre.co.uk
Youth Court 100
This was sent to us by Jill Gramann JP who is Chair of the Kidderminster Youth Panel.
A little late [I have been away] but nonetheless extremely sincerely I am writing to thank you for all the time and effort you put in to making the court scenarios for YC 100 so successful.
The back story and briefing exercises that you undertook with all the young people meant that both 1909 and 2009 came across as incredibly realistic. In particular the `Lauren' role filled so magnificently by the three girls was an extremely convincing delivery. Those of us who chaired the courts really felt in all cases we were dealing with a genuine defendant. Their improvisation skills and responses under pressured questioning were a real credit to them, and to you! It was obvious from the audience reactions that they too were completely enthralled as the scenario played out.
We have written to all the young actors to thank them, and enclosed a 'certificate' as evidence of their participation. I have also written to their head-teachers asking that the schools too recognise their achievements in some way.
Well done to the `Young Nonentities' and their inspirational Youth Leader!
One favour to ask! We have lots of photos from 1909 but none at all of 2009. Could you ask your troupe whether they have any they could share or forward to us. I imagine that at least the parents of the `Laurens' will have taken some!.

Office Staff
Brian Potter has decided to step down from the post of Theatre Manager, effective from 31st December 2009.
We are very pleased to welcome Debbie Moseley as the new Theatre Manager, with effect from the 1st January. I am sure that you will all give her your support as she finds her feet in the new role.
We are very pleased that Annie Robson will continue as the Assistant to the Theatre Manager.
This change has left a vacancy for a Box Office Receptionist. A notice was placed on the board at the theatre and word passed around the Society that has resulted in a significant number of application forms being completed and returned. The first interviews were conducted on 17/18 November. It is planned that the new person will be confirm at the committee meeting in December and will take up their post in January.
New Season
The next brochure will be ready by the start of Maskerade. We have a fairly full programme with our own plays, our usual visitors in TOR, KODS, Swan Playwrights, the College and the Flower festival. Also we have a number of professional shows some new and some returning.
Unfortunately KODS have had to cancel their youth section show. This has left us with a two week gap in May. We will seek to fill some of the dates with additional professional shows.
Electrical Installation
Recently we had an inspection of the wiring in the theatre. This inspection was part of compliance with the new requirements and will have to be repeated every year from now on. We are waiting for the full report, but the initial findings were quite significant.
It will be necessary to replace a significant number of the fuse boards, and eventually a significant amount of rewiring. The first part is nearing completion as part of the changes to provide the new toilet.
We do not know the final cost, but it is going to be significant! Also it will mean that parts of the theatre will have to be taken out of use while the boards are brought up to standard.
Toilet for the Disabled
As I write this David is finishing the electrical services for the toilet and bar and Tony is near to completing the water and toilet. A few items still need fitted. At the moment all effort is dedicated to the building of the set for Maskerade.
We hope to have the toilet working by the time Maskerade starts but I hope that if we miss that date you will bear with us for a little longer.
