The Directors

To avoid turning a review of 13 seasons of plays into a catalogue, the names of the directors have been omitted. But most certainly not because they do not merit acknowledgement; they have been the prime movers in much original and enjoyable work.

Only since the move to Broadwaters have members of the society been given the opportunity to exercise their skills in this department. The policy at the Playhouse - except for an occasional guest production had been for Kenneth Rose or the professional manager to be in charge of directing the casts.

Since the move 15 members have taken charge in turn (plus three productions by Bert Amies, recently retired with an MBE from being county drama adviser in Shropshire. He was in charge of Oh, What a Lovely War!, Lysistrata and Othello).

Shiela Jacobs undertook 12 of the shows and Harry and Betty Beresford 16 betwen them. Mary Southall directed eight, Doreen Evans six and Hugh Meredith seven. The other productions were by Graham Orr and Jennifer Rogers Ifour each), Di Hackett, Marjorie Reeves, Len Reeves, Alan Green, John Hackett, Malcolm Gee and Graham Till.
