Mixed Doubles was a random sequence of cameo pieces by several authors, linked by the theme of married life in all its variety.  Then a serious play, A Doll's House, which looks at the subject from the viewpoint of another age for those who want more than a passing laugh from a night in the theatre. There were plenty of those in Rookery Nook, still going strongly after 50 years, with a sharp little part for Florence Tomes and Don Hedley partnering Casewell.

The Philanthropist was a less than compelling intellectual comedy and a Whitehall farce, Not Now Darling, made no pretences in that direction. To end the season, one of the biggest and most difficult productions in the society's history, Othello. Colin Young as the Moor, Hugh Meredith overtopping him as a physically unusual Iago, Joy Brockway as Desdemona and Shirley Gaston as Emilia. It was no less than a personal triumph for Young and the headline "Climbing the heights if not quite reaching the peaks" was not unfair.
