A sexual comedy (about as explicit as the Babes in the Wood, I said at the time), Rattle of a Simple Man, was a technical exercise carried off with skill by Casewell and Anne Sadler. An enjoyable revival of Blithe Spirit had Pam Meredith as a breathtaking ghost and Elizabeth Cole taking her own firm line with the eccentricities of Madam Arcati. The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew was one of the old-style Christmas treats, Michael Hale as the wicked baron, Richard Hart as a White Knight and a dragon with the voice of a Welsh trade union leader.

Two and Two Make Sex was a poor comedy with a worse title, The House of Bernardo Alba had a minority appeal but Waiting for Godot (you love it or you loathe it; come and see for yourself, folks) had those two philosophical tramps, Young and Casewell, speaking the words clearly and pointing no conclusions. In May another major comedy from the mainstream of the traditional theatre, Hobson's Choice, was expertly directed and played with conviction, Doreen Evans and Alan Green heading  the cast.
