The new Rose Theatre

In converting the old St. Oswald's Hall the Nonentities have borne in mind the twin aims of enhanced comfort for audiences and improved facilities for the presentation of plays. One measure of the success with which the architect has balanced the objectives within a limited budget is to play the game of find the original structure.

Certainly one immediate gain is the attractive foyer with space for exhibitions and an area for a comfortable chat over coffee. Opening off is a bar with the benefit of a general licence for the supply of beers and spirits.

Behind the scenes, a good sized rehearsal room has been provided complete with a lighting grid for the presentation of 'studio' theatre. The stage itself has been enlarged and much needed extra wing space provided. A workshop, wardrobe and properties storage and comfortable dressing rooms complete a transformation rather than a conversion!

In keeping with the policy of making the building as widely used as possible, it is available for hire, either in total or in part and with or without the stage facilities. It therefore provides an ideal venue, not only for theatrical presentations, but meetings and conferences too. All enquiries should be addressed to the resident Manager at The Rose.
