It will be even more difficult to recognise it from the inside. A considerable amount of money, some £300,000, has been expended providing greatly improved facilities front and back stage for audiences and performers alike. But these expensive improvements will be wasted unless we can utilize the premises to the best advantage. What are the hopes in this respect?
Kenneth Rose in that earlier souvenir booklet published when the Playhouse closed, said that any new theatre which was built should not be 'the perquisite of a single amateur society'. The present administrators of the Nonentities do not disagree with this sentiment.
'The Rose' will remain the home of the Nonentities but it is also hoped that it will become the Theatre of Wyre Forest. With this in mind other amateur theatrical societies, as well as other organisations, will be encouraged to use the auditorium and meeting room. Joint productions by local operatic societies will also be arranged. The professional side of the arts will not be forgotten either. In the first season, with the help of West Midlands Arts, performances of drama, music and dance by professional companies have been arranged. It is intended to continue such professional presentations in future seasons and indeed to extend the scope of such events if support warrants it.
The Nonentities have ensured that Wyre Forest has a new theatre. They
have had the necessary faith in the future Now it's up to the people of
Wyre Forest to demonstrate that such faith was justified.
