Set in France before the Revolution, this beautifully costumed and elegantly crafted play tells the story of sexual manners and manipulation in the seduction of an innocent young girl and of a married woman by two worldly-weary and experienced pleasure seekers.

Ending in tragedy the play faithfully and stylishly recreates the vivid world of the novel, and paints a terrible picture of 18th Century manners - which have a disturbing parallel with today's sex-obsessed society.
