The Director writes:- OUTSIDE EDGE is an hilarious portrait of quintessential village
cricket, and the hotchpotch characters who participate. It is
timeless, and has been a favourite for summer audiences at
THE ROSE on several previous occasions. This production has
been modestly updated, and will introduce several new but Characters we can all recognise are represented ...if exaggerated! The over zealous, pompous captain, who really believes he is playing Australia for the ashes, and his long suffering tea making wife Miriam - the actual power behind the throne. The lecherous, up market 'Del Boy' who thinks he has been let off the leash for the afternoon. Nervous secretive Bob and his languid, ever suspicious wife, Ginnie. Voracious larger than life Maggie who suffocates her ' lovely little Kev', and the public school Solicitor with his naive trophy bimbo. They are the ingredients for two hours of rib tickling confusion. A summer flummery with which to end the Nonentities season. Almost a farce.....but not quite! |

A well loved play to end a good season. |
The local social cricket team are up to bat and sometimes it seems they are one batsman short of an eleven. There are good secrets and not so good secrets that come to light during the course of the day. Roger is the ultimate captain rallying his troops whilst ignoring his greatest strength, Miriam, who makes the 'fantastic' teas with or without the 'non-compulsory' help. The days builds to a climax where it seems that everything must change forever. |
