Set in a local school nursery classroom and in a caretaker’s office, this is a bright, funny and entertaining play, as you would expect from the author of “The Secret Life of Adrian Mole” Sue Townsend.

She wrote this play because she was dismayed that so many lively and capable people are, in the 21st century, unable to read and write properly. She has brought to life 4 interesting and disparate characters in a Comedy, which nevertheless reflects the hidden shame of being illiterate, and how it shadows and influences all aspects of real life. But, there is always Hope. Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way! You will come out of the Theatre smiling!

The Rose Theatre Nurtures Young Talent.

In ‘Groping for Words’ By Sue Townsend New comer to the stage at the Rose Theatre, Matt Gibbons is not only acting with Joan Wakeman who taught him as a child, but he is also being directed by Jenny Eglinton who taught him drama at Kidderminster College.

Ally Botham who also appears in this production has recently progressed from the Theatre’s Youth Theatre to the adult Nonentities. So this is a very cosy production of ‘Groping for Words’ by Sue Townsend even more enticing when set in the friendly Studio venue at the theatre.

It is also an example of how the theatre encourages young actors through their Youth Theatre and Workshops to the adult stage The play looks at four people who, for various reasons at an adult learning evening class.

A close-up of the social scrap heap, written in a fine vein of comic indignation. In the theatre Sue Townsend has also entertained audiences with ’The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ½ ' and ‘Bazaar and Rummage’.

Don’t miss this funny and moving production.
