Description

Clarissa, the second wife of Henry Hailsham-Brown is adept at spinning tales of adventure for the delectation of their bored diplomatic circle, but when a murder takes place in her own drawing-room, she finds live drama much harder to cope with – especially when she thinks she knows who the murderer is. Her husband is due home with a VIP in tow and so she needs to hide the body! This light hearted comedy thriller was written especially for Margaret Lockwood by the Mistress of Crime.

Director’s notes:

The opening of Spider's Web is classic Agatha Christie with twists and turns galore.

Christie's heroine is a woman who, a little bored when her foreign office husband is off being diplomatic, likes to imagine herself in dangerous situations and, like her creator, amuse her friends with the tangled webs she dreams up. When the real thing happens and a corpse turns up, her web-weaving almost proves her undoing.

There's the desk with a secret drawer, the mysterious new servant and his wife, and how about that gardener who recently dug a trench the size of a grave? Only one thing's for certain: Clarissa Hailsham-Brown, the woman at the centre of this story, is absolutely not the killer…..
