The Beauty Queen of Leenane

by Martin McDonagh
Description
In the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, Mag Folan shares a little house with her adult daughter Maureen. Tetchy and senile, yet bubbling with malicious energy, Mag's only goal in life is to keep her daughter waiting on her hand and foot. Maureen, in her turn, exists to torment and humiliate her mother. This perpetual battleground is interrupted by the arrival of the Dooley brothers and the first stirrings of romance. Beautifully written and extremely funny, it is a darkly comic tale in the best tradition of Irish writing.
Beauty Queen is Martin McDonagh's first play and was produced in 1996 when
he was 26. Both he and the play have received numerous awards and everything
that he has written has been highly successful with both audiences and critics.
