Directors Notes

The story of "The Railway Children" is almost 100 years old. The author, Edith Nesbitt, wrote in it 1906. It is one of a large number of children's stories she wrote, many of which are still popular today. However "The Railway Children" is the most popular because of films and television.

For "The Railway Children" The Nonentities have been joined by local children. There are two teams of six playing alternate performances who were chosen from 39 children who auditioned. It has been a pleasure to work with them and we hope they enjoy the experience of performing at the Rose with experienced adult actors.

Because the play is being presented on a small stage, our production has had to be simple and members of the audience that need to use their imagination. That, the story is A powerful one and we are sure the audience will enjoy the tale of Peter, Phyllis and Roberta.
